There are so many ways to get involved with social impact design work in Portland. Joining our chapter is one of them! Or browse through our partners below.
We hold monthly Meetups that alternate between design thinking workshops around local or global challenges, and happy hours that connect people interested in using design thinking for good.
Signing up here is the best way to stay informed of all our activities:
Long-form design challenges
Social Impact Lab
The Social Impact Lab is a multi-week design marathon focused on making a difference in local community through social impact design. The Social Impact Lab PDX matches teams of Portland-area professionals with local projects to design around a specific challenge; teams work closely with project sponsors to research, ideate, design, build and test solutions that meet the needs of the challenge.
Additional design programming
Design Portland + Design Week Portland
Design Portland is an organization that weaves together the process, practice, and content of our Portland's diverse creative community throughout the year. Part of that initiative includes Design Week Portland, which includes hundreds of independent events and open houses, conceived and hosted by Portland’s vital creative community.
OpenIDEO first and foremost is an online platform where anyone (even people not associated with a local chapter!) can submit ideas to global design challenges. You can find our chapter page there, but feel free to participate on the platform as an individual at any time.
Human-centered design calendar
PDX HCD connects Portland’s human-centered discipline groups so that attendees can learn the Why, What, and How of all the design-thinking paths. PDX HCD curates an event calendar, guides folks on how to get involved with the community, and helps HCD event organizers run better events.
